BS 5268-2 provides guidance on the structural use of timber, glued laminated timber, plywood and other panel products in load-bearing members. BS 5268-2 includes recommendations on quality, grade stresses and modification factors applicable to these materials when used as simple members, or as parts of built-up components, or as parts of structure incorporating other materials. BS 5268-2 also gives recommendations for the design of nailed, screwed, bolted, dowelled, connectored and glued joints. In addition, BS 5268-2 provides recommendations for a method of test to assess the adequacy of structural assemblies, and it includes general advice on workmanship, various treatments which can be applied, inspection and maintenance. BS 5268-2 has been amended in December 2007 to incorporate some of the European Committee for Standardization (CEN) standards on materials.
